Highbridge’s King Alfred School marks 60th year with archives visit

-

Students from Highbridge’s King Alfred School have spent a fascinating day at the Somerset Heritage Centre, delving into the school’s past history.

Senior Archivist Esther Hoyle gave an informative talk before showing them around the facility which included a visit to the strong room.

Students looked through lots of documents including council minutes from the 1950s, plans, maps and microfiche newspapers about the beginning of King Alfred School.

Students also had the opportunity to look at ‘Find My Past and Ancestry’ to look for family members.

“The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to preparing for the School’s 60th Anniversary later this year,” a spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We would be pleased to hear from anyone who has any memories, pictures or anything they would like to share about their time at The King Alfred School. Please email KAS60@kingalfred.somerset.sch.uk”

An exhibition is to be held on Tuesday July 18th at the school from 7pm.
