Highbridge’s King Alfred School has this week confirmed that it is moving closer to gaining academy status.
The Governing Body of Highbridge’s King Alfred School has decided to complete the conversion of the school into an Academy.
It will become part of the Clevedon Learning Trust (CLT) on 1st September 2016, or as soon as possible thereafter, having considered the feedback and views received in response to the public consultation.
Headteacher Denise Hurr told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is an exciting step forward for the School and I anticipate working with the CLT and our advisers to achieve the conversion of the School to an Academy, subject to the approval of the Department for Education (DfE).”
“The conversion will allow King Alfred School to focus on educational improvement to become outstanding, and to share the developmental skills offered by the CLT.”
She added: “There will be greater career development opportunities for teachers and support staff, and scope for the good practice of our School to be shared.”
“The School’s identity (uniform and school logo) will be retained, with no visible changes.”
Hugh Mackay, Chair of Governors, added: “We concluded that it remained in the best interests of the School to convert into an Academy, as part of the Clevedon Learning Trust.”
“This is on the basis of the School being an equal partner within the Multi-Academy Trust, allowing us to be in full control of our future direction.”
“In addition, we will retain our local governing body and general autonomy, as well as having a representative on the CLT Trust Board.”
