Highbridge’s King Alfred School celebrates best-ever A-Level results

-

Students at Highbridge’s King Alfred School are celebrating record A-Level results today (Thursday).

There were celebratory scenes at the school early this morning as pupils cheered with delight as they opened their results envelopes.

At A2 level, Year 13 students have achieved an average points score of 769, far exceeding the previous record score from 2009. This is the equivalent of every student improving by over five and a half A-Level grades from 2011.

The AS figures for Year 12 also show an average improvement of over two grades per student from 2011.

Headteacher Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are delighted with these brilliant results, which reflect the commitment of students, staff and parents.”

“The sixth form has been a major area of school improvement and these results are testament to the hard word and efforts of all involved.”

He went on to comment on some of the excellent results achieved in maths and physics, regarded as being amongst the most difficult subjects at A-Level.

There were some outstanding individual achievements with the stand-out being Stjohn Peters (A/A/B/Merit), Kelly Wadley (A/A/B/B) and Abi Ferneaux (Distinction*/Distinction*/ B).

Other noteworthy results were achieved by Kyle Bednarz, Xanthe Rowland, Hollie Hoskins, Jack Sheppard, Josh Herrington and Laura Partridge.

Special mention also goes to Catherine Lodge, who achieved an A* in EPQ and Sophie McCardle who exceeded all her targets by four grades.

In addition, congratulations also go to the school’s dance department, who achieved two Distinction* grades and five Distinctions.
