The countdown to Jubilee Celebrations in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge on Saturday June 2nd is underway, with a youth parade and a world record sandcastle building bid being planned.
The day will start with a youth parade from Highbridge’s Apex Park to Burnham Pavillion.
Ian Jefferies, one of the organisers, said this week: “We are looking for as many youth groups, schools and playgroups from Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge as possible to participate. If you are part of, or know of any group with youths, then please contact us to express interest.”
“When the event reaches the Pavillion, the participants will take part in a world record attempt at building the most sandcastles in an hour on the beach.”
Anyone is invited to take part and after the record attempt, an afternoon of entertainment is being planned in Marine Cove Gardens.
All participants in the world record will receive a certificate of participation.
A video of how to make sandcastles has been produced by the organisers and is shown on the right.
“We are still looking for more ideas. If anyone is good at sand sculptures and would like to get involved, or if anyone has anything that may add to the day, please contact us via 07724995631”.
Burnham’s business community is supporting the event with sponsors including Sunspot Amusements, The Pavillion, JH Productions, The Oaktree, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, Toy Cupboard, Seabreeze, Galley Cafe, Skye Bar, Sedgemoor District Council and Burnham Swim Academy.
