Burnham-On-Sea’s Olympic torchbearers led a colourful parade through the town on Saturday (June 2nd) to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Dozens of representatives from local groups joined the procession, watched by large crowds along the route, as it wended its way from Apex Park along Marine Drive to The Esplanade.

Olympic torchbearers Arthur Gilbert, Tony Bird, Jason Vickers, Katrina Doyle and Sarah Milner Simonds attracted loud cheers from the spectators.

They were joined by Mayor Ken Smout with his deputies Martin Cox, Pauline Pollard and Mike Mansfield.

Among the many groups taking part were Burnham and Highbridge Dreamschemes, Dancefit, Lucy Gunter Dance School, Burnham Sports Academy, Burnham Monarchs, BARB, Highbridge Brownies and Guides, Southleigh Kindergarten and St John Ambulance. A band from Burnham’s French twin town of Le Ferre, in addition to its Mayor, was also in attendance.
