Brean-based horse and pony owner celebrates 50th year of business

-

Residents in Brean held a surprise party for the owner of the village’s beach horses on Thursday morning (October 1st) as he reached his fiftieth year of business.

John Vowles, 64, first started looking after the ponies and horses at the age of 14 when left school early to work with his father. He’s run the business for the last 35 years on his own.

“John has never wanted to do anything else and loves the beach at Brean and working outdoors,” his wife, Kim, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

During Thursday’s event, parish councillors, residents and country and western music fans joined in the hush-hush celebrations to present John with a bottle and a card to mark his special milestone.

“It was a wonderful surprise and I am very grateful to everyone,” said delighted John.
