A Burnham-On-Sea cancer sufferer is celebrating a very special Christmas with her family after receiving a life-saving bone marrow transplant.
Jo Burridge-Clayton has just returned home from Bristol Hospital to be home with her family in Burnham over the festive period.
It comes after three months of specialist care and treatment for her rare chronic myeloid leukaemia.
“I am delighted to be allowed home for Christmas – it is so wonderful to be back with my family,” Jo told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“I remain thankful for the generosity of the complete stranger who has given me the chance to celebrate this Christmas.”
“I hope to travel to Germany to meet him in a few years’ time when I am allowed to personally thank him.”
She added: “After being away from Burnham for three months it has been a bit daunting being so far away from Bristol Hospital. I had excellent treatment there and I can’t thank them enough.”
“I also thank everybody who has supported me throughout my illness with their kind words, prayers and practical help, especially my Mum, who came back from Canada to look after our children, and my husband Peter who has cared for me during our stay in Bristol.”
“I will be returning to Bristol and the Hammersmith in London in the New Year for further tests and treatment, but I intend to have a lovely Christmas with my family and I hope you all do to.”
Husband Peter, who is a Burnham councillor, added: “I would also like to thank everybody that has offered support during Joanna’s illness.”
“She has coped incredibly well with her treatment and has been an inspiration. Despite being so poorly she was still prepared to help others and help with national campaigns for donating blood and bone marrow.”
“I am very proud of her, and I would also like to join her in wishing everybody a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.”
