Former Burnham and Highbridge Mayoress Joanna Burridge-Clayton has this week announced that she is standing as the Labour candidate for Highbridge and Burnham South in next month’s County Council elections.
She will be contesting the seat against Liberal Democrat candidate Rosemary Parsons and the Conservatives’ John Woodman.
Jo, who is married to former Mayor Peter Burridge-Clayton, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I was a Labour town councillor for Highbridge from 2003-2007 and have many links to the community.”
“I am currently a member of the Regeneration Partnership and a governor at Beechfield Infants school in Highbridge.”
“I am also an active member of St John’s Church and a mentor for the Youth Town Council.”
“I was brought up in the area and attended local schools, as my children do now. My parents were well known because they both worked in the local post offices and libraries.”
She added: “My working life experiences include areas such as education within prisons, schools and colleges, housing and drug rehabilitation, which are pertinent issues to many of the local community.”
“I am married to Peter and we live in Highbridge Road. We are at the end of the mayoral year, a year which has given me as Mayoress opportunities to engage with, and learn from other members and groups in the community.”
“I am keen to have the chance to represent local people and issues at county level, and by striving to put the heart back into Highbridge, give the area back the respect it deserves.”
