Safety warning messages on Burnham-On-Sea’s jetty have been updated to make them more visible for the summer holiday season.
Sedgemoor District Council has brought in contractors over the past week to repaint the high-visibility warnings on the surface, as pictured here.
It comes after concerns were raised last month about the jetty following a safety scare.
Claire Faun, spokeswoman for the council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The warning messages on the jetty are repainted every couple of years but that depends on them being worn off by time and tide.”
“The jetty is recognised by the council as being a risk and so safety is regularly reviewed.”
In 2012 a five year-old boy, Dylan Cecil, died after being swept away by the sea after playing on the jetty.
A number of safety enhancements were introduced in the wake of that incident, including improved signage, an audible warning system at the jetty building, and enhanced lifeguarding during the busy summer holidays.
