Jet skiers have this week been urged to abide by strict safety rules in place around Burnham-On-Sea jetty.
A number of rules are enforced to ensure the safety of swimmers, paddlers and boat users around Burnham-On-Sea beach.
Luke Rennie, RNLI Lifeguard Supervisor for Sedgemoor, said: “Jet ski users are reminded that they are to operate craft a minimum of 300 metres from the shoreline. Until they reach the 300 metre limit, they are reminded that they are not to exceed 8 knots.”
“We ask that jet ski users respect the red and yellow-flagged zone set up for swimmers, and that they do not enter this zone at any time, so as to avoid risk of collisions or other incidents involving bathers.”
“Users are instructed by the council to launch between the beach jetty and yellow warning posts. The council also states that there is to be no launching or recovery of craft from the jetty.”
Council by-laws state that ‘any person not complying with permit conditions or in any way causing nuisance or danger will have their permit withdrawn and in certain circumstances reported to the Police or other relevant authority’.
