One of Formula One World Champion Jenson Button’s winning race suits has been auctioned to benefit the Highbridge-based National Blind Children’s Society.
Jenson is a long-standing vice-president of the National Blind Children’s Society, a provider of specialist support for 24,000 children with visual impairment across the UK, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary year this year.
Just after winning the Turkish Grand Prix in Istanbul, the race ace signed one of his Brawn GP race suits and presented it to NBCS Chief Executive Carolyn Fullard at the Silverstone Racing Circuit in Northamptonshire.
The suit was recently auctioned at the Autosport International Racing Car Show at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham, where it was won with a bid of £2,800 by motorsport enthusiast Miguel Governo, from Kilmarnock in Scotland.
Miguel said: “It was a pleasure to bid for and win this wonderful item from such a great driver and for such a worthy cause. It is great that Jenson takes time out his hectic schedule to work with NBCS and for that alone he deserves praise.”
NBCS chief executive Carolyn Fullard said: “Jenson is a great supporter of our children and his help is invaluable to us, especially his generous gift in this very exciting time for his career. He’s certainly our champion!”
“We depend totally on private funding, donations and sponsorship, and Jenson’s support will help us to continue our essential work with children and young people who are visually impaired.”
