Well-known Burnham-On-Sea runner Jason Vickers raised more than £2,600 for charity by completing the London Marathon on Sunday (April 17th) – taking his total to a massive £7,700 over five years.
Jason, who works at Burnham’s Tesco supermarket, ran the 26 mile route for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
The plucky runner, who has suffered from Crohn’s Disease for the past 17 years, completed the course in five hours and 51 minutes.
Jason told Burnham-On-Sea.com afterwards: “It was very warm weather, which made the run more difficult than usual. I did get slightly sunburt, but I still enjoyed every minute of it.”
“I’m really pleased with the amount raised and thank everyone in Burnham who has supported me over the years. I am very grateful for all the kind words of support.”
Burnham-On-Sea Harriers member Sue Nicholls was also running the marathon in memory of her late husband, raising money for Cancer Research UK.
And Sam Stockham, a teaching assistant at St Joseph’s School and Brent Knoll School, was running on behalf of the charity Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre.
Lympsham runner Gary Bowden was also running the marathon in aid of CLIC Sargent’s ‘Especially For You Fund’.
