Burnham-On-Sea police station was the centre of attention when a jail break took place on Saturday (April 23rd) – but it was all in aid of a good cause.

Teams of fundraisers donned colourful costumes to take part in the event, for Weston Hospicecare, with the aim of getting as far away from Burnham as possible within a 24 hour period, without spending a single penny.

The event sees the volunteers beg, borrow and blag their way to raising as much money as possible for the charity.

The participants are Andy Rowse, Brendan Sheridan, Christopher Rowse, Tony Deake, Helen Stoodley, Stacey Ford, Chantelle Henderson, David Cox and Kath Dunstone.

“That means no buses, no trains or petrol money. They can hitch a ride and see if they can blag their way onto public transport for free, or do whatever it takes to get as far away as possible, providing no money exchanges hands!” Weston Hospicecare spokeswoman Jennie Bishop told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

Last year’s competition saw the teams ending up in Paris, Boulogne, Brussels, John O’Groats and Mansfield, raising over £7,500.

The charity provides free palliative care to 1,000 people with life-limiting illnesses in North Somerset and neighbouring parts of Somerset.
