The funeral of a well-known Burnham-On-Sea businesswoman will be held this Friday (March 30th).
Iris Brown of local firm Brown, Brown and Rogers passed away surrounded by her family on March 21st.
Formerly from Bristol, she set-up a string of residential homes in Burnham – Westway’s, Dormy, Glyndale and Avalon – which she ran with her family when she moved to the town in 1974.
Brown, Brown and Rogers owned properties in Maddocks Slade, Allandale Road, Berrow Road, Rectory Road, Creswick Way, Magpie Close, Stoddens Lane, Adam Street and Victoria Street.
She was known as a businesswoman and entrepreneur, although never lost her caring and true vocation as a nurse.
A relative told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week: “Iris encouraged young people to work in the care industry and created opportunities for those who wanted to work within a family environment. Nursing was her main objective and caring for those in need was her forte.”
“Her beautiful smile and her wonderful sense of fun captivated many when she turned her hand to any business whether it be running a wool shop, a restaurant or a club.”
“A mother, and friend to many, Iris will be sadly missed although her memory will continue as we pass each property that she owned, helped someone buy or wanted to buy!”
Iris’ funeral will be held at Burnham’s St Andrew’s Church on Friday at 2pm.
