Burnham Conservative says he supports air strikes on Iraq extremists

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Conservative prospective parliamentary candidate says he would vote in favour of air strikes against Islamic State extremists in Iraq.

James Heappey, pictured, has first-hand experience of conflict, having served as an officer in the Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire regiment when he saw action in Afghanistan, Northern Ireland and Iraq.

James told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Saturday (September 27th): “IS is responsible for a barbarism that extends far beyond the beheadings and crucifixions we’ve seen on our TVs.”

“Unchecked, they’ll destabilise the Middle East, provide a proving ground for jihadis from across the globe and the threat to Britain of that is clear.”

“I’ve seen combat first hand so the decision to put our service people in harm’s way would never be easy but we have to stand up to this evil and protect ourselves from the terror it will export. On Friday, if I had been your MP, I would have voted for air strikes in Iraq.”

His comments come after MP Tessa Munt voted in military favour of action in Friday’s crucial House of Commons vote, as we reported here.
