Burnham-On-Sea Library’s Council Information Point set to shut

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Council Information Point is set to permanently close at the end of March in the latest of a long line of council cost-cutting moves.

Burnham-On-Sea.com learns that the Information Point based in Burnham Library in Princess Street (pictured) will shut on March 31st.

The information point has provided a wide range of information, advice and council services for many years, with a person on duty from 9.30am-5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

But Lorna Williams, the County Council’s Information Officer, who oversees the information points, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I can confirm that the Burnham point will unfortunately be closing at the end of March in a cost-cutting move.”

“While the face-to-face service will end, we are trying to ensure that as many leaflets are available in the library as possible and that most services will be available online,” she added.

The facility, which is also partly run by Sedgemoor District Council, has been particularly popular with senior citizens buying bus passes and similar council services. Following its closure, the nearest information centre will now be in Bridgwater.

It is the latest in a long line of recent council cut-backs to hit Burnham, with the town losing its Town Centre Manager, its job centre, and the future of its swimming pool also under threat.
