Burnham-On-Sea Infants School expansion boosted by council deal

-

Sedgemoor District Council has this week signed a 25-year lease of Burnham-On-Sea’s Winchester Road Playing Fields to Somerset County Council, enabling work to expand neighbouring Burnham Infants School to proceed.

The lease covers 381m2 of land and will enable the County Council to provide an additional classroom extension within the Burnham Infants School site to help meet over-subscription at the school.

The council says the land itself will not be built on but will help the school compensate for part of the existing site lost through an extension to the school building.

A new footpath within Winchester Road Playing Fields, the provision of a new toddler slide and additional tree planting will be included.

Tim Mander, Sedgemoor’s Property Management Team Leader, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Both councils have worked hard to secure this agreement and it is understood that work on the school will start shortly with completion for the new school term in September.”
