Burnham-On-Sea Infants School to celebrate its centenary this month

-

A centenary birthday party is to be held this month to mark 100 years since the school in Burnham-On-Sea’s Princess Street opened.

From 1915 to 1982, generations of Burnham children passed through the doors until Burnham Infants School moved to its present site.

To make the occasion, Somerset Skills & Learning – the site’s current occupiers – have teamed up with the Burnham Historical Society and Burnham Infants School to put on a special birthday party.

The event will be held on 19th June, from 10am to 12noon, and Burnham-On-Sea.com readers who attended the school or were members of staff are invited to go along to share stories of the old days and have a look around the building.

To help the celebration, the Burnham Infants School Choir will sing several songs, the Historical Society will provide a pop up museum, and there will be family activities and refreshments.

“We really want to see lots of people through the door who have had a link to the school to help us celebrate this centenary year,” said Tracey Kingsland Bonshour, Administrative Officer for the centre.

“We want to hear peoples stories of their time spent at the school. If people have any old photographs or memorabilia they still have, we would love to see it.”

The school was opposite Burnham’s Princess Theatre and Arts Centre, next to the library. Call 01278 783057 for more details.
