Thieves break into Burnham-On-Sea skating rink, leaving damage

-

Thieves have broken into Burnham-On-Sea’s Christmas skating rink overnight and left a trail of damage.

The intruders entered the rink’s large canvas tent in the car park next to Burnham’s Marine Drive during the early hours of Thursday morning.

“They have stolen a number of skating boots, damaged several Christmas trees and also ripped up part of the plastic surface,” said Kathy Jones from organising group BEST (Burnham Events Social Team).

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s hugely disappointing that someone would do this after all the hard work put in by our volunteers to make it ready in time for our opening.”

“The BEST committee is offering a reward for any information that results in a conviction.”

She added that the skating will still be opening on Friday as planned, with an opening ceremony on Saturday morning.

Anyone with information about the incident should contact Burnham Police on 101.
