Plans to build a 2,500 seat ice rink on land near Burnham-On-Sea’s BASC Ground appear to be sliding closer.

An ice rink has been on the cards for on land near the BASC Ground (pictured) for several years, as previously discussed in Burnham-On-Sea’s discussion forum.

But now a local company, Burnham Development (Somerset) Limited, which was created in 1999, has come forward with firm proposals to construct an arena on land near Stoddens Road.

Project development consultant John Collins says on the company’s website: “The site at Stoddens Road, Burnham-On-Sea is next to the BASC Sports ground which makes it an ideal site for such a facility which is within easy reach of the M5 motorway, as well as this we have another two potential sites at Bournemouth and Newquay.”

“The proposed facility will have 2,500 fixed seats a 60 x 30 Olympic size ice pad and a smaller ice pad for Toddlers and learners as well as a Curling rink plus other facilities.”

“There will also be ice hockey both junior and senior players as well as professional Basketball. Also available will be professional people to teach ice skating and ice dancing to a very high standard, we shall also be providing other events from time to time with the ice covered.”

It is possible that the company will make an announcement about the purchase of land for the rink over the next few weeks, according to local press reports.
