A boy was taken to Weston Hospital suffering from the early signs of possible hypothermia after being helped from the mudflats at Brean on Monday evening (July 25th).
Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards were called out at 4.50pm to a person reported to be in the mud quite a way out on Brean beach.
The casualty had self-recovered but was wet and cold after getting caught in a passing downpour of heavy rain, said Coastguards.
An ambulance was requested to help the person, but due to other higher priority cases they were unable to give a time of arrival so the Coastguards drove the person to Weston Hospital for a medical check over.
“The average body temperature is around 37C and Hypothermia can set in when the body drops below 35C which is a very small drop, don’t be fooled even the fittest person can succumb to hypothermia in a short time,” said a Coastguard spokesman.
