Young cricket players win through to regional finals

-

A group of youngsters from across the Burnham-On-Sea area have batted and bowled their way to success at a regional cricket competition.

Huntspill Girls travelled to Taunton to compete in an Under 13s competition this week, where they were on top form and won their way through to the final.

Both Huntspill and Minehead dominated throughout the day, not losing a match on their way to the final.

“In the final, Minehead batted first, scoring 61 in their 7 overs. The Huntspill girls set about their task with gusto and put on their best batting performance of the day, passing Minehead’s total with an over to spare,” John Davey, Huntspill’s senior coach and girls manager, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“I am really proud of the performances all the girls put in, especially as for a few of the girls it was only the second time they had played in competitive matches.”

The team will now represent Somerset in the Lady Taverner’s Regional Finals in Bournemouth on 10th August.

John said: “We are looking forward to representing our club and the county in Bournemouth next week, where we will be playing against 12 counties from across the South and West of England including Cornwall, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire.”

The event – which was organised by Jan Godman, Somerset’s Womens and Girls Cricket Development Officer – involved clubs from Bridgwater, Minehead, Chard, Huish and Langport, Wells and Taunton.
