A multi-agency search operation was launched overnight to find a child reported to be missing in Berrow.
Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards, BARB Search & Rescue, and Avon and Somerset Police were called to Sandy Glade Holiday Park in Coast Road just before 11.45pm on Sunday night.
The 10 year-old boy had been reported missing and it was thought he could be in the dunes or on the beach.
“The youngster had last been seen heading across the nature reserve possibly towards the beach followed by other family members,” said a Coastguard spokesman.
“We sent the Coastguard Rescue Vehicle to drive along the beach performing a torchlit search from Berrow to Brean Down while BARB were also tasked and with their All Terrain Vehicle did the same search from Burnham Town Slip to Berrow.”
“The Police helicopter meanwhile was carrying out a thermal imaging scan of the sand dunes, nature reserve and beach.”
“After nearly three hours it was decided everywhere in our search area had been covered to a suitable level and that there were no persons in the area at that time.”
“We were then stood down by our operations centre and returned home to get some precious sleep.”
“The first informant did the right thing and called it in as soon as there appeared to be a problem. Never hesitate, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguards.”
“A big thanks go to the Chefs Corner Cafe in Sandy Glade Holiday Park for providing everyone with tea and coffee, a very kind gesture.”
Crews were stood down just after 2.15am.
Police later said that the boy had been found safely.
