‘Hovis’ the badger cub is rescued by Secret World wildlife carers

-

This tiny badger cub has been rescued Burnham-On-Sea wildlife rescuers and given the name Hovis due to his similarity to the size of a loaf of bread.

The lucky little badger cub is getting safety and warmth at Secret World Wildlife in East Huntspill after his mother was accidentally disturbed near Shepton Mallet.

The plucky little cub is the first badger cub of 2014 for the wildlife rescue centre.

“The plucky little cub is the first badger cub of 2014 and his timely arrival after the badger culling trials last year, has given hope to staff and volunteers at the centre,” said Charity founder Pauline Kidner, who has temporarily become foster mum to the cub.

“The cub has been called Hovis after a member of the public involved with his rescue described the size of the badger as a similar size to a loaf of bread.”

For Secret World, which rescues over 5,000 injured and orphans annually, the arrival of the orphan signifies the beginning of a busy season which sees the centre take in hundreds of birds and mammals during spring and summer.

Pauline added: “With Mothers day just around the corner we are hoping people will treat their mums to a unique gift by adopting a badger, owl, fox, otter or hedgehog. The adoption pack includes a beautiful soft toy, facts about the animal, certificate and updates throughout the year. The money raised through animal adoptions helps care for the wildlife that is brought into the centre.”
