Highbridge residents fighting 167 new homes to hold meeting tomorrow

-

Scores of concerned residents oppoosed to controversial plans for over 120 new homes on a public field next to Highbridge’s Lakeside housing development and 47 homes in Walrow are set to hold a public meeting this week.

A local property developer plans to build a huge new development of 121 homes on land between Lakeside and the Isleport Business Park. A further 47 homes have been earmarked for Walrow in Highbridge in a separate application.

Nearby residents have voiced their concern about the loss of public open space, poor road access, increased traffic, road safety and the impact on the environment.

A public meeting will be held this Tuesday, 28th August, at 7.30pm at the Bristol Bridge Inn.

This ‘informal drop-in’ session will allow local people to discuss the action plan in response to the outline planning application for 121 houses and the separate application for 47 new homes at Walrow.

“All will be welcome. If anyone needs help with accessing the objections online or help with email or writing a letter of objection, we have residents willing to help,” resident Linda Greenland told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“We have spent hours and hours of research and investigation, and been talking to councillors and MPs, to get detailed information on the issues.”

“This affects not just Lakeside residents and Walrow residents, but the whole community from Burnham, Highbridge and Watchfield and all outlying villages.”

“Anyone nationwide can object to the destruction of a wildlife habitat and building on designated Public Open Space and using every bit of green space.”

“This affects visitors to the area too – whether it’s those who are visiting families or on holidays or fishing, it affects you also. So ask family and friends to object.”

“Trying to develop every spare bit of green fields is ruining our wildlife habitats and increasing road traffic.”

“Whatever your objections they need to be heard and it’s up to individuals to write their objections either online or by email or by post.”

“The cut-off dates are very close so please have your say to SDC and come along if you need help or maybe can help us deliver flyers to your neighbours, friends, or work colleagues.”
