Just two days after the latest fire, a public meeting is to be held today (Wednesday 19th October) to discuss the future re-development of the former Highbridge Hotel and Market Site.
A workshop will take place at Highbridge Community Hall in Market Street from 4pm – 7pm and will give residents an opportunity to have their say on what kind of development and facilities they would like to see at the site.
Representatives from Sedgemoor District Council, Mead Realisations and Burnham and Highbridge Town Council will be in attendance and the session will also feature a presentation with background information on the site, together with future ideas for re-development.
The workshop will also give residents a chance to ask questions and to raise their own ideas regarding the development they feel would benefit Highbridge.
Cllr Helen Groves told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “District and Town Councillors have worked really hard to ensure this opportunity is provided. It is my sincere hope that as many people as possible will attend. This is a real chance for Highbridge to be heard, the importance of which cannot be stressed enough.”
Meanwhile, Sedgemoor District Council continues to work with Mead Realisations on plans for the arts project to the front of the hotel site, which will see the recently-installed hoarding decorated with a mural painted by local children from the Highbridge Dreamscheme.
It is hoped that the project will, in the short term, improve the look of the site which stands at the entrance to the Town.
The former Highbridge Hotel has been derelict since a huge blaze in April 2008.
