A bumper display of more than 500 entries gave the judges at Burnham-On-Sea’s 40th annual horticultural show a tough task on Sunday (August 12th).
Large crowds of visitors flocked to Sanders Gardenworld throughout the weekend to see the Burnham-On-Sea and District Horticultural Society Show’s colourful blooms, crafts and foods on display.
Among those who impressed the judges was the Tolley family, pictured, who scooped six trophies with their wide range of entries. [Scroll down for full results].
Show Secretary David Bryant told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s been a very good weekend – we’ve had 503 entries this year, which is slightly up on last year.”
“The quality of entries has been very good in several classes, particularly given the difficult growing conditions we’ve seen during the changeable weather. It was also good to see some new exhibitors joining us for the first time.”
There were 10 sections and 133 classes being judged with cups, shields, medals, trophies and tankards to be won for the best entrants. Don Macbeth was also judged to be winner of the Best Kept Plot by Burnham-On-Sea’s Allotments Tenants Association. Phil Hancock, Joint Managing Director at Sanders Garden World, and Association Secretary Alan Hoddart presented the awards.
Roger Tolley is pictured with his daughters Elizabeth and Catherine, who won six trophies. He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We’re delighted to have done so well – it’s been a great family effort.”
