A horse was sedated so it could be rescued from a water-filled ditch near Burnham-On-Sea on Wednesday morning (October 24th) and a second horse got into trouble at nearby Lympsham.
The animal’s owner called the emergency services after it became stuck next to Red Road in Berrow shortly at 9.20am.
A fire crew from Burnham-On-Sea was joined by a special rescue team from Bridgwater.
A spokesman said the horse had been trapped in around four feet of water, and that the owner had requested a vet to sedate the animal.
Rescuers then cut part of the ditch’s bank away before using strops, lines and a Land Rover to winch the animal to safety.
Burnham fire crews were also called to a second incident at Willow Farm, Lympsham at 3.30pm when a horse managed to clamber out of the ditch by itself just after crews arrived.
