A horse that was trapped up to its neck in two metres of slurry was rescued in the early hours of today (Sunday, April 18th) by fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea, Bridgwater and Taunton.
The animal was reported to be in difficulty in Dunwear Lane, Dunwear, near Bridgwater at 11pm on Saturday evening.
A Burnham fire crew was among those called to help the animal, which was freed after a two-hour operation.
“Upon arrival, crews confirmed the horse was up to its neck in approximately two metres of slurry,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The owner assisted with a tractor to remove a large quantity of slurry from the lagoon.”
“Crews donned dry suits to enter with the assistance of mud paths and strops. Slings were placed around the horse and at 12.58am the horse was removed from the slurry pit.”
A local vet was also called to the incident and assisted by sedating the horse while it was removed.
