Burnham-On-Sea fire crew called to rescue horse in Bason Bridge

Burnham-On-Sea’s firefighters were called out on Wednesday evening (October 31st) to rescue a horse stuck in a water filled ditch.

One fire appliance from Burnham-On-Sea, the specialist rescue team from Barnstaple, an animal rescue tactical adviser officer, and an operational assurance officer were sent to the incident in West Hill Lane, Bason Bridge, near Highbridge.

A spokesman said: “Once the crew got in attendance the officer in charge confirmed this to be one horse stuck in a ditch and requested the attendance of a telehandler to assist with rescuing the horse.”

“Fire control mobilised the urban search and rescue teams Telehandler from Clyst St. George.”

“The crew liaised with the owner and the vet that were on scene to formulate a plan of rescue.”

“The crew rescued the horse from the ditch with the use of a harness and the Telehandler.”

“Once the horse was rescued to transfer to a safe location and left in the care of the owner and the vet.”
