Burnham and Highbridge Mayor leads special Holocaust Day service

Dozens of local people gathered besides the Frank Foley Statue in Highbridge on Friday to mark World Holocaust Day.

Organised by the Highbridge Memorial Trust, the ceremony in Market Street was attended by various local dignataries including Burnham and Highbridge Mayor Eric Gill and Mayoress Gilli Kenyon-Gill.

Frank Foley helped Jews escape from Germany before the start of World War II by giving them visas to flee the country.

The Vicar of Highbridge, Rev Robin Lodge, led a short service at the site and John Curtis gave a short sermon before laying a stone on the statue.
