Hinkley Point B power station offline after ‘unplanned outage’

-

EDF Energy, Britain’s biggest nuclear power producer, stopped output at Hinkley Point B power station near Burnham-On-Sea today (Tuesday, March 27th) due to an ‘unplanned outage’.

EDF spokesman Stephen Henry confirmed to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Reactor 4 at Hinkley Point B power station came offline at 9.50am this morning.”

“The unit automatically shutdown while it was in the process of moving towards a planned low-load refuelling. It will now proceed into off-load refuelling.”

A similar outage occurred at the station on Sunday, March 18th when the same equipment – unit 4 – of Hinkley Point B went offline.

According to an earlier statement, the reactor was due to enter a period of planned maintenance on March 30th until April 2nd. EDF said there was no need for any public concern.
