Energy giant EDF has leased offices to provide a base for a large part of the project team working on the Hinkley Point C nuclear power station.
Their work will support the construction of the proposed new nuclear power station near Burnham-On-Sea, which will create thousands of jobs.
The announcement came amid recent reports of a delay in the so-called final investment decision for the £18 billion project.
The French company has said a decision will be made “soon”, with mid-February now looking a possible date.
EDF Energy has already invested in facilities, including a new national training centre, and is involved in Bridgwater College’s Construction Skills Centre.
Phil Whitehurst, national officer of the GMB union, welcomed the announcement, saying: “It follows on from EDF signing an earthworks contract with Kier Bam and with work on that contract starting.”
“There are currently about 300 workers on the site with around 100 workers now employed by Kier Bam on the earthworks contract. The new offices are more positive news for this much-needed project.”
