Two young members of Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club are set to perform on their cart this weekend despite suffering broken arms during the last couple of weeks.
The two youngsters, Chloe Bowerman, 9, and Megan Lawes, 13, have unfortunately suffered the injuries in separate accidents away from the carnival club during the run-up to the start of the new season.
“Chloe broke her arm while climbing a set of monkey bars with her family at a playground in East Huntspill,” father Martin told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Unfortunately, it happened just ten days ago, but she’s so excited to be taking part in the carnival and nothing will stop her!”
Megan’s father, Keith, added: “Megan fell off her bike while riding home from school. She was really gutted at first when it looked like she wouldn’t be able to take part in the carnival this year, but she’s making a great recovery and is really excited to be taking part on the cart.”
Excitement is building for the club’s 16 young members who are now eagerly awaiting the start of the season with Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday November 3rd followed by the 2018 Burnham-On-Sea Carnival on Monday November 5th.
Hillview Carnival Club Chairman Duncan Britton added: “Both girls have been really looking forward to performing on our cart – they have been rehearsing for a long time, so after checking they are OK to take part, we have agreed that the show will go on for them and they will be joining us.”
The club’s team is working around the clock to complete their huge ghost-themed cart, which is called ‘The Spook Returns’.
“Excitement is definitely building now,” Duncan said as the youngsters showed off their new costumes for the first time this week, pictured here.
“We have a great cart this year and hopes are high for another successful season.”
“Everyone at the club is also grateful to West Country Parks and The Windmill at Edithmead for their support as our main sponsor. This is our fifth cart that we are building at the site of Burnham Waste, so we are also grateful to Terry Rickard and his family for their support.”
