Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club had a successful night at Wells Carnival on Friday (November 12th) when it scooped first place.
The club’s cart, The Show, won the juvenile category – its first place of the carnival season – having previously achieved second places at Burnham, Bridgwater, North Petherton and Shepton Mallet.
The float now moves on to take part in the Glastonury Carnival tonight (Saturday) and then Weston on Monday.
They were originally awarded third place at Bridgwater Carnival, but were changed to second after being accidentally overlooked by two judges. Mark Bishop, Hillview’s cart captain, told Burnham-On-Sea.com he was “delighted” at the news.
The huge cart has cost £12,000 to build and is decorated with over 10,000 lights, half of which are environmentally-friendly.
