Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club enjoys a successful season

-

The team at Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club are enjoying a successful season, having won three first places on the Somerset carnival circuit so far.

The club, which is celebrating its 40th year, has received praise from spectators for its colourful jungle-themed entry, called Jungle Fever, which was built with a team of dedicated volunteers.

Hillview achieved second place in its class at Bridgwater, before a first place at Burnham, a second place at Weston, and then first places at both North Petherton and Shepton.

The club has two carnivals to go – Wells this evening (Friday) and Glastonbury on Saturday night – to complete the circuit.

Hillview’s treasurer, Lyn Burland, told Burnham-On-Sea.com the club has enjoyed a “great season so far” and that everyone is pleased.

“We did suffered a few problems at Weston Carnival when the torential rain on that evening got into our electrics and left us with no music, but our children were wonderful and still carried on performing their routines!”

“We’re looking forward to the final two carnivals and entertaining the crowds at Wells and Glastonbury.”

Decorated with more than 5,000 light bulbs, the 80ft-long cart has cost the club more than £10,000 to build.
