Excitement is growing at Burnham-On-Sea’s carnival club this week as the youngsters who will performing on the town’s cart have been holding their final dress rehearsals.
With just days to go until the start of the carnival season, Hillview Carnival Club’s sixteen young members onboard the club’s theatrical-themed float, called The Show, have been proudly showing off their colourful costumes, as pictured.
The club’s costumes have been created by volunteers Lyn Burland and Tina Marshall, who spent almost three months stitching the clothes together.
Charlotte Bishop, one of the youngsters on the float, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’ve been working on the choreography on the float and they’ve all done so well. We can’t wait for it to begin.”
And Chloe Bennett, 8, added: “It’s my first year on the cart and it’s very exciting. It will be great.”
Meanwhile, Hillview’s team have been working around the clock to get their cart ready in time for the Bridgwater Carnival this Friday (November 5th).
The huge cart has cost £12,000 to build and has 35 moving parts. It is decorated with over 10,000 lights, half of which are environmentally-friendly.
After Bridgwater Carnival, the cart will travel to North Petherton Carnival on Saturday before coming home to Burnham on Monday, November 8th.
Hillview has high hopes of repeating its success of last year, when it won the County Cup, after wins at every event along the Guy Fawkes Carnival Circuit.
