Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club got off to a great start at the opening event of Somerset’s carnival season in Bridgwater on Saturday.
The club – which is celebrating its 40th year – completed its jungle-themed entry, called Jungle Fever, with the help of a team of dedicated volunteers working around the clock.
Decorated with more than 5,000 light bulbs, the 80ft-long cart has cost the club more than £10,000 to build.
Hillview’s treasurer, Lyn Burland, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a great reception from the crowd in Bridgwater and came second in our class behind Marina Sydenham, which we’re pleased with.”
“We’re now really looking foward to performing in front of the home crowd in Burnham.”
Hillview’s Duncan Britton added: “Everything’s on track for the next event of the season in Burnham. Our team has been working incredibly hard to get the cart fully completed in time.”
