More than 100 members and supporters of Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club attended the group’s annual presentation night on Saturday (February 10th).
Hillview Chairman Duncan Britton handed out awards and certificates to dozens of members at Highbridge’s Globe Inn.
The event recognised the club’s hard work over the past year, which culminated when last year’s western-themed float, called ‘Yee Ha!’, won second place overall in the county juvenile category.
Duncan thanked the club’s members for their “incredible support during a busy and challenging year”, and he thanked the club’s many local supporters and sponsors.
Trophies were presented to the children who performed on the club’s float. The Chairman’s Choice award went jointly to Charmaine Baker and Luke Clark.
The other winners were: Most promising: Thomas, carnival spirit: Jake, best girl: Jess, best boy: Luke, best all-rounder: Ryan, best newcomers: Katie and Louisa, most improved: Max, kids choice: Lottie, and co-ordinators choice: Jack. The ‘Paul Plume trophy’ for best fundraiser went to Charmaine.
During the evening, the club also handed over a cheque for £400 to Cancer Research UK, taking its overall total raised for the charity to £5,166 since 2008.
Hillview also celebrated its recent Big Lottery funding grant success
