DIY firm Proper Job to open a new Highbridge store in place of Co-Op supermarket

-

Highbridge’s former Co-Op supermarket is to be redeveloped into a new Proper Job DIY store, it has been announced this week.

The building, off Southwell Crescent in Highbridge, has been bought by Proper Job and will create six new jobs when it opens by early February.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Manager Peter Tilley explained: “This is a great location for us to open a new, larger Proper Job store – our 16th in the UK.”

“It’s a perfect size for a large outlet of Proper Job, it has ample parking, is close to the M5 motorway junction, and is located well for Bridgwater, Highbridge and the nearby villages of Mark and the Huntspills.”

Proper Job’s plans for the site come after the Highbridge Co-Op supermarket shut down in October 2018.

Peter added: “Our existing Proper Job Burnham-On-Sea store in Adam Street will continue to operate as it is. There are no plans to make changes there.”

“The new Highbridge store will be larger and, due to its size, will offer a larger product range covering DIY and tools.”

The announcement of the plans come after recent local speculation that the site could be earmarked for a new housing development.

Peter added that recruitment will begin shortly for the new jobs. “Six positions will initially be available, which we hope will rise to 10 in time.”

It’s a boost for Highbridge town centre, coming just a few weeks after brand new furniture shop Sopha opened.
