King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge has expanded its popular Preloved clothing lending service to include uniform, stationery, footwear and books thanks to the support of a local business.
The unveiling of the new-look shop follows the launch of the school’s Preloved Prom Store in 2019 which has proven very successful. It has seen young people from all over the country come to the school to borrow dresses or suits.
The Preloved Store now offers uniform supplies such as shirts, ties, blazers, PE kit, toiletries, revision books and study resources which have all been donated by previous students and the local community.
The items can be borrowed for free or in exchange for a donation to charity.
Members of the public can donate items by bringing them into the main reception. Prom dresses and suits can also be borrowed and donated by anyone in the community for local events and Proms.
Steve and Jackie Richards from Burnham Portable Toilet Hire have donated to the store and provided funding for its refurbishment, contributing to its success.
Jackie, pictured, came in to officially open the newly expanded shop and said that both she and Steve donate as their two daughters attended TKASA and they think it is important to give back.
Dan Milford, Principal, said: “I’m really keen that we link with local businesses and the community. It is such an amazing opportunity for the school to provide support to families and children at the school.”
The school is part of The Priory Learning Trust and has a thriving Sixth Form.
