Highbridge residents attack County Council over plans for new double yellow lines

-

Concerned residents in Highbridge have voiced concern at plans to introduce double yellow lines outside their homes which they said will create congestion and parking problems in neighbouring roads.

Somerset County Council is currently consulting on proposals to introduce double yellow lines along Worston Road, near the junction with Mayflower Court, in a bid to improve safety.

But local residents are unhappy at the council’s planned changes, claiming they will cause problems.

Resident Katherine Ann Hicks told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “For 10 years we have lived peacefully, parking in front of our house.”

“If double yellow lines are put in we will have to park elsewhere nearby which will cause congestion for the residents in the immediate surrounding area.”

“During the day the road is not busy and everyone parks respectfully to ensure emergency vehicles can always get through.”

“Having spoken to the neighbours, none of us can understand why the council have suggested double yellow lines.”

A spokesman for Somerset County Council told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We are currently consulting on potential changes to parking on Worston Road in response to concerns being raised about safety.”

“This is still in the consultation phase so we encourage the public to take part and let us know their views.”

“All responses received will be carefully considered before any decisions are made or changes implemented.”
