The long-awaited redevelopment of the eyesore Highbridge Hotel has taken another step closer with the formal submisison of the plans.
Mead Realisations has submitted plans to Sedgemoor District Council for the erection of two retail units at ground floor plus 10 dwelling flats, and the formation of parking and external refuse & cycle stores.
Comments on the scheme are being invited by the council up until October 17th. The Planning Application Number is 11/14/00087.
Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported earlier this month that the hotel building work is scheduled to begin in November.
Sedgemoor District Councillors discussed the plans on Wednesday and welcomed the news.
Councillor Andrew Gilling, Portfolio Holder for Housing told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This is another step towards seeing this building being brought back into positive use. The plans have been in place for some time and we now have an anticipated start date of November this year. This will be a real boost Highbridge and across Sedgemoor and will prove a catalyst for further regeneration within the town.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com also reported here that the YMCA had been awarded £1.1m of funding to overhaul the hotel site by the government’s Homes and Community Agency.
The Highbridge Hotel has been derelict for over six years since a huge blaze destroyed much of it in April 2008, followed by several other smaller fires.
