Highbridge’s 64th annual Festival Of The Arts is set to open in Burnham-On-Sea today (Wednesday March 2nd).
Hundreds of talented youngsters from the ages of three upwards will compete at The Princess for nine days.
Dance will be featured from 2nd March until 6th March, with dozens of entries covering ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, cabaret and Greek.
Speech and Drama then takes centre stage on 7th and 8th March. Poetry, Prose and Choral Speech will be performed on stage.
Singing and instrumental music will then take over for the final part of the festival from 9th-11th March.
Maureen Phillips, the festival’s General Secretary, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It promises to be another superb festival. We’ve seen lots of entries this year and the dance categories are over-subscribed.”
“Everything is in on track for this year, but we do still need funds to organise the 2012 event, which will be our 65th.”
She added that the public are welcome to attend the daily sessions, which start at 9.30am and approximately 2pm.
The festival originated in Highbridge in 1948 and has been held for many years at The Princess.
