Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service has this week awarded a Highbridge employer with a Chief Fire Officer’s Certificate of Appreciation to thank it for supporting a Burnham-On-Sea firefighter.
The Highbridge branch of Jewson has been presented with the certificate in recognition of its contribution made to the community by releasing one of Burnham’s on-call firefighters from their primary employment to attend emergency fire calls.
Burnham-On-Sea Station Commander Ian Hazelton presented the certificate to Mervyn Lavender, Branch Manager of Jewson in Highbridge, alongside Jewson employee and On-Call Crew Firefighter Steve Pike.
“The support of local employers like this is imperative for us to maintain an emergency response for the community,” explained Ian.
“We are currently recruiting, so if any other businesses have staff that could take up the challenge of becoming an on-call firefighter, they could also soon be receiving their own certificate!”
