Highbridge boxing gym ‘overwhelmed by community support’ after appeal

-

A Highbridge boxing gym owner has said he has been ‘overwhelmed’ by the local community’s support after he launched an appeal for funds to ensure the facilities can re-open after the Coronavirus lockdown.

Bobby Jones, co-owner of the School of Hardknox Boxing, started the appeal last month in an attempt to raise £1,500 to help pay the running costs of the gym.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com that he when he was hugely grateful that residents dug deep to help and the target was reached in less than a day.

Bobby said: “We are truly grateful for all the donations and have been overwhelmed by the support.”

“We have not been going long and the backing we have is amazing – the money that has been donated will be covering the running costs of the building and maintenance work for when we re-open.”

“We hold our local home shows at the Oaktree arena and this is how we cover the costs of our bills but we will not be able to put one on until the foreseeable future due to Coronavirus.”

“We will be following the government’s guidelines and will re-open when they say it’s safe to do so.”

“It’s going to be a lengthy process but we will do everything we can to keep our members safe.”

“Highbridge and Burnham is a very special place with a fantastic community and words can describe how thankful we are.”
