High-visibility donation increases safety for Highbridge youngsters!

-

Youngsters in Highbridge have been kitted out with new high visibility jackets to keep them safe around the town.

Highbridge Childrens Centre has been donated 45 high-visibility jackets with the help of Highbridge police and Somerset County Council.

PCSO Claire Chambers explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We recently visited the centre to give them some Road Safety input and spoke to the children about being bright on the roads.”

“There was enthusiasm from the children to try on our hi-visibility jackets and to go out onto the road to try using a pedestrian crossing which we didn’t feel would be safe as most of the children’s coats were dark.”

“A centre teacher also said that it would be helpful if they had some jackets for when they take the children off-site to practice road safety and so they can be better seen.”

“An initiative was put together to try and find some local funding to provide the jackets, and Councillor Rosemary Parsons kindly offered to donate the jackets from her County Council Community Fund.”

Julian Plested, Highbridge Children’s Centre Manager, told Burnham-On-Sea.com how grateful the centre is for the donation: “At the Children’s Centre we are all delighted to have these high visibility jackets for our children.”

“This valuable new addition will enable us to feel more secure when we take them off site, or even in the immediate environs. We are very grateful to our PCSOs and Councillor Parsons for making this possible.”
