Calm weather makes risk of flooding in Burnham-On-Sea unlikely

-

Fears that this weekend’s exceptionally high tides could cause flooding in Burnham have continued to ease with the latest weather forecast predicting a calm few days ahead.

The Environment Agency had warned Burnham residents that they could be at risk from the high tides on September 8th, 9th and 10th if they coincided with stormy weather, but the latest forecast shows conditions should be relatively calm with only light winds.

Environment Agency spokeswoman Bridget Norris told Burnham-On-Sea.com on Wednesday morning (September 6th): “We’re continuing to keep a close check on the situation with the Met Office, but it doesn’t look like we will have the feared high winds or tidal surges. People in Burnham still need to be aware, however, that the position could change.”

On Friday (September 8th) the wind is forecast to be from the East at 16 mph, on Saturday (September 9th) it’s forecast to be from the East at 14 mph, and on Sunday (September 10th) it will blow from the Southeast at 11 mph.
