Work to revamp part of Burnham-On-Sea town centre is getting underway this week as part of a major programme of improvements.
New pavements between Cross Street and Adam Street are planned to be completed during January, weather permitting, the Town Council said this week.
New lighting columns in the High Street, new lighting columns in Victoria Street, new planters, cycle racks, hanging baskets and event banner columns will then be installed during February.
And road surfacing work between Cross Street and Adam Street is scheduled to be completed by the end of March.
Paul Martin Associates, which is project managing the work on behalf of the council, will be giving advance notice to affected traders to ensure they have adequate time to prepare.
The council says the work aims to enhance the appearance of Burnham’s town centre to encourage more shoppers and visitors.
The changes are part of a combined work package amounting to £440,000 funded by Tesco to offset the expansion of its Burnham store, along with grants from the Town Council and former South West Regional Development Agency.
