Heartless burglars target Highbridge pensioner while she’s in hospital

-

Heartless burglars have stolen a huge quantity of jewellery, coins and war medals during a break-in at a Highbridge pensioner’s home – while she was in hospital.

Valerie Cundall, 80, was in Weston Hospital after a fall when her bungalow in Kiln Drive, Highbridge, was burgled earlier this month.

“They left none of her jewellery – it’s been hugely distressing,” her daughter, Karan Kilduff, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Among the items taken are several World War I medals from my grandad, all my mum’s jewellery, a gold heart locket, a silver oval locket, coins, rings, several fob watches, and a notebook computer.”

“Mum was in hospital with an infection when she was burgled and had been convalescing after a fall in which she’d fractured her pelvis.”

“We had a call on October 16th from a neighbour saying that a window at the home appeared to have been broken.”

“We went round straight away and found that a garden ornament had been pushed through the glass. It’s been horrible and such a shock for all the family.”

Karan added: “The police came out and took fingerprints but there have been no leads so far.”

“We just hope that someone out there will read this and get in touch. We would urge anyone that has any information to contact the Police.”

Karan says that Valerie is too upset to return to the bungalow and is now living elsewhere. “We’re very relieved she wasn’t there at the time of the burglary, but now she can’t go back.”

The break-in took place during the week-commencing October 10th and anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the valuables should contact Burnham-On-Sea Police on 101.
